Our Mission

We are Finding Family, our mission is to help reconnect Irish people, all over the world, with family and friends they’ve lost contact with.

So if you’ve lost touch or haven’t spoken to a family member, relative or friend for some time, don’t worry, we are here to help.

Finding Family was set up in 2018 by people with a passion for helping to reconnect people.

When Families Lose Contact

Most people will agree that family is what life is all about.

We work hard and long hours to help provide for our families. We also make decisions which, for the majority of the time, have our family’s best interest at heart. Family is the number one priority for many.

However, there are times when families separate and lose touch. Times when the relationship between family members breaks down and people move away, sometimes emigrating to the many far corners of the world.

Why families lose contact differs from case by case you cannot give a blanket answer to say what leads to this happening, but we do know it can happen for many reasons, some serious and some not so serious but all being important at the time.

The good news is, there has never been a better time to search for Irish family and to try to regain contact with those whom you have not spoken to in a long time

Top tips on what to do when starting your search

Starting Out

Before you begin, we recommend that you talk to your family. Speak to as many people as you can and ask as many questions as possible about those whom you are trying to trace.

Your aunts, uncles, cousins and perhaps grandparents all could perhaps have some clues or indications on how to contact your long-lost family member or may have clues as to where they were last seen or heard from. You may also be able to get to the bottom of why the family member lost contact in the first place which may make things easier later on.

Patience

Tracing your family member is going to take time. It is going to take a lot of investigation work and you will have a lot of ups and downs along the way, so be patient.
And remember, when you do find them, it may also take some time for both sides to readjust and for emotions to settle down – so don’t rush anything and don’t be over eager.

Trust

Finally, trust the professionals. When tracing family, the professionals are experts so be sure to trust their advice and trust their knowledge. A professional will work very hard to find your family members and to help you regain contact and have the expertise to do so.
